The Indian government is planning to sell 5 million tonnes of wheat and 2.5 million tones of rice from its stocks in the open market to stabilise prices, in addition to the sale of 1.5 million tonnes of wheat and 0.5 million tonnes of rice announced earlier. Domestic prices of staple foods have been increasing due to low supply and hoarding. The government maintains adequate stock levels, and so far, only 0.7 million tonnes of wheat were sold through e-auction under the open market sale scheme.
