LPG subsidy only for poor, no respite from record price for others

LPG subsidy will be given only to poor households with ‘Ujjwala’ connections and all others will have to pay market price but the government is likely to continue to keep fuel prices in check. “Subsidies by definition are not designed to get entrenched and increased. Subsidies by definition have to be depressive,” oil minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Thursday.

Inflation and wheat, sugar export ban dampen consumer sentiment

According to data from the independent think tank, the index of consumer sentiment (ICS) tanked by 9.4% in the week ended May 29. The ICS fell by 5.9% in urban regions, while the drop was much steeper - by 11.4% - in rural regions.

Exports up 15.46% in May; trade deficit widens to $23.33bn

India's merchandise exports rose by 15.46 per cent to $37.29 billion in May on account of healthy performance by sectors like petroleum products, electronic goods and chemicals, even as the trade deficit widened to $23.33 billion during the month, the commerce ministry said on Thursday.

Meta COO Sheryl Sandberg steps down after 14 years

Meta Platforms Inc Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg is leaving the company after 14 years, she said in a Facebook post on Wednesday, sending the social media firm's shares down 4%. Chief Growth Officer Javier Olivan will replace Sandberg, said Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg in a separate post. Javier has worked at Meta for more than 14 years and has led teams handling Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger.

Active trading saved RBI from seeking additional capital
